SMS Specialist Team Showcased Starch Innovation to MU Student at Thailand International Science Fair 2023 sms-underline

SMS arranged an exhibition and workshop highlighting the versatility of starch innovation for the food and non-food industry. At the event, there were more than 50 students attending and participating in the activities.

Beginning with basis starch chemistry and modified starch application in the food industry, the objective is to demonstrate the practical use of starch properties in many functionalities. The students experimented the iodine testing in food products and small sensory evaluation for food products.

Next for non-food applications, SMS showcased the advanced innovation of value-added tapioca products ‘TAPIOPLAST®TPS – a functional bioplastic resin from natural cassava, which is effectively used to produce bioplastic products including bioplastic bags, garbage bags, food containers, and mulch films with 4 months degradation rate without leaving residue to the environment.

Besides, SMS introduced the starch innovation as an excipient for pharmaceutical products including tablets and soft gel which provides excellent performance with cost-effectiveness.

On behalf of agricultural products manufacturers, we are glad to be part of elevating and adding value to tapioca products for greater use on a global scale and look forward to encouraging agricultural innovation to achieve sustainability.
